HOW IS COACHING DELIVERED?
Formal coaching sessions are normally delivered in 60 minute one-on-one sessions, in person or via phone. Two times per month is usually a good starting point to ensure enough “traction”. Sessions can be more or less frequent as things progress, depending on individual needs.
Coaching also happens between sessions, not only during sessions. First, as a client is fully present to their work/life between sessions, discussions with the coach will resonate. Clients will put into action new ideas and new actions, implementing new behaviors and developing new habits. Second, access to the coach is available between sessions via email follow-up and on-demand phone support.
HOW LONG DOES A COACHING ENGAGEMENT LAST?
Successful coaching engagements typically last a minimum of twelve months with some clients staying engaged for months longer to years. It is up to the client to decide. As long as the client is progressing on new goals, achieving results, and receiving value, coaching makes sense.
Some clients value the ongoing sounding board, accountability partner, having another set of eyes and ears, and input on decision-making and planning. Other clients re-engage after being inactive for awhile for help on specific projects, as needed.
WHO PAYS FOR COACHING SERVICES, THE EMPLOYEE OR EMPLOYER?
The most successful coaching scenarios involve co-pay arrangements where the company supports and encourages the coaching mission, but also requires co-payment from the employee. The company support is valued and the employee is usually more committed if they too have some personal investment in the process.
Employees see value in being offered the opportunity for coaching services. Coaching provides a Win-Win for employee and employer. Some organizations offer coaching services completely reimbursed by employer when specified production levels are realized. In other organizations the employee invests in coaching themselves, making a wise investment in their most valuable asset — themselves.
HOW DO WE START?
Each coaching participant completes a four-page Confidential Client Profile and Upfront Agreement. The first coaching session includes a review and agreement between client and coach on the Upfront Agreement document along with kicking off the coaching process.
